Since 2000, Amnesty International has campaigned for states that have ratified the Rome Statute or that are in the process of doing so to ensure that they can fulfil their obligations. It urges that states do this by reviewing ther national laws and either drafting new legislations or amending that which exists.

The Updated checklist for effective implementation indicates both what states parties are required to do under the Rome Statute and what Amnesty International recommends that they should do to ensure that the Court is an effective complement to national courts.
